29 Jan: It was hot and humid all day and without warning , it rained during the night just enough to get all our chairs wet. This is definitely a pool day but first we had to visit the local Thursday market for the last time.
We had to pick up some veggies since we are leaving Sunday morning and we don't want to have to go shopping as soon as we arrive at Via Corona. We did not stay long at the market as it was hot and it was a zoo thanks to all those dam Gringos.
However, parking is always at a premium so I had to park about a block away. On our trip to the car we passed a restaurant and of course it was packed with Gringos so we decided to have Bruch. Therefore we could go straight to the pool when we got home and get out of the heat.
Besides the Happy hour the day was a wash. cheers
30 Jan : During the night we had a rain storm and the temperature dropped to 72 F, a regular cold spell for us. However, we never heard it rain so imagine my surprise when I got up at 2:30 to visit the bathroom and found myself standing in puddle of water. I checked to see if there was a leak in the bathroom, then the kitchen and finally the basin in the bedroom to know avail. Then I looked outside and seen all the water and said holy Sh### I left the 3 vents open and exposed to the rain. Problem solve!! close the dam vents.
Naturally, and no surprised, the topic at the Old Geezers morning Scrum was the weather. Everybody is a weather man but nobody said it was going to rain. So much for their expertise. The we got on the topic of the type of weather that provided the most power from an engine. Bob #1 , the ex-pilot seems to have the most knowledge on this subject so he gave us a short educated lecture as if that subject will change the world.
The entire day was cool, cloudy and punctuated with several burst of rain. It rained so hard once that our patio awning on the MH automatically closed which it is supposed to do when there is rain or wind . The surprise to me is that I did not even know that we had that feature on our MH.
No beach day for us today but we did sneak into the pool in the afternoon but it started to rain so we returned the MH as I didn't want to get wet. At least I got a chance to catch up on my reading. cheers

Wash the MH 27 and 28 Jan 2015
On the 27 th Tuesday we did mostly nothing; it was hot and humid and most of the crew congregated at the patio facing the Ocean so we could absorb the nice breeze to keep cool and to drink sufficient liquid to replace the sweat.
Most of the "Grigos " from the local hotels just sat on the beach but the Mexican are the brave ones as they challenged the ocean no matter how high the waves are. The high waves usually bring a Rip Tide so we general watch for someone in trouble. If so; our Park has a horn which we activate and that notifies a recue crew. We have only seen one such rescue since we got here but apparently a person drown about a mile down the beach from us.
28 Jan ; today we are having out MH washed and waxed by a "family " crew, of a father , mother and adult son. It will take them about 4 hours. However, before they arrive I have to move the MH out from the back wall as I am park about 1 foot from that wall with no room to get on the roof. So, that means moving a few things on the patio and raising the 4 leveling jacks. Two of the jacks would not retract and you can not move the MH until the are up. After playing with the electrical controls for over 1/2 an hour I resort to the tried and true method. So I had to borrow a crow bar from my AB neighbor and help the jacks retract. Luckily it worked and the jacks are staying up until I get to the US where I know I can get help. A few of the experienced MH owners have suggested that I call the MH company as they think it is a solenoid problem. I will definitely take there advise but not in Guayabitos as we are leaving on Sat afternoon or Sunday morning and I don't want my jacks to be stuck down. I can live with the jacks up.
The MH wash and wax was started at 9 AM and was completed around 1 PM which was great because I did not want them to be waxing during the hot Sun. The cost was 1000p or around 95.00 Cdn. It is a "right of passage" that we provide the MX workers with Coke so I went across the street and bought 2 Cokes and a Fresca. Coke is a big seller in MX and interesting enough, President Vicenti Fox was the CEO of "Coke Cola" before he was President. The other MH owners remarked on what a good job they did. This same company will be washing and waxing most of the other RVers MH before they leave here because of the ocean salt that gathers during the winter.
The rest of the day was spent in the pool swapping stories with one particular couple who went to Central America last winter. Are we thinking about going to Central America.... Yes; will we likely go next year ... Not likely.
After such a trying day we ( mostly Carroll ) suggested we go out for supper so we chose a good restaurant close by and it was full except for a table for four. Luckily a couple who are close friends were already in the restaurant so they grabbed the table for 4 and waved us over. No Thunder Storm 26 Jan 2015
We were promised a thunder storm on Sat or Sun but no luck, the storm never arrived, not that we were disappointed. However, it did bring hot and humid weather, in fact it was 80 F at 5:30 AM. Most od us spend the day in the pool, or at the beach cooling off in the ocean or just sitting at the beach patio where there was a nice breeze blowing off the ocean.
Luckily, we were all smart enough to keep taking liquids all day, which probably save us from dehydrating. Does water come in 12 ozs cans.
This was definitely the laziest day since we have been here.
It was too hot to cook so we had to go out for supper. cheers

Fishing Derby 25 Jan 2015
Today the Mexicans where hosting a fishing Derby, which is an annual event. None of the Cdns nor Americans wanted to entered the Derby because they got the "Mexican Shaft " last year. However 5 Cdns, some from our park did charter a Mexican boat to enter the Derby and they caught 7 nice fish but none sufficient to win the Derby.
The "Mexican shaft" happened because the rules , however sketchy, indicated that the Grand Prize was for the biggest fish which is normal. However, when it was determined that a non-Mexican did not have the biggest fish, the rules got changed to the biggest " Dorado" ( which you might know as Mai Mai) which happen to belong to a Mexican, so the "Grigos " boycotted the derby this year.
We had a fairly busy day. We connected with Yvonne's sister Margaret ( Yvonne is our daughter-in-law ) who was holidaying in Busaria, some 44 KM away. So we drove there and picked her up and decided to show her our area of MX. Our first stop was at a small tourist town called San Francisco. This town has a beautiful Surfing beach, but not for swimming with several restaurants right on the beach. Amazingly this town does not have an RV Park nor a large resort hotel. It does have many small bungalows type rooms for rent so if you are looking for a quite holiday for you R and R this is the place as it is not crowded but sort of comfortable. It does however allow tenting on the beach with a public washrooms complete with showers nearby so it does attract the backpackers crowd.
Then we took Margaret to La de Lapentia which is the a " working town" where we shop as they have everything you probably need while you are here. We did a walk on there Malecon, which is an Ocean side walkway for those who have never been to MX or other such countries. Margaret enjoyed this town as it was bustling for a Sunday. I should let you know that most Mexican usually work 6 days a week so Sunday is when they shop etc.
Then we brought Margaret for a drive thru our town , Guayabitos . La de Pentnia and Guayabitos are a mile apart where Guayabitos is definitely the tourist town as it has a multitude of hotels and restaurants. There also is an area called "Grigo Gulch " where many of the homes are owned by Grigos, hence the name. We then returned to our RV Park so she could see how we Canadians ( and 2 Americans ) spend the winter. I believe she was surprised to she our huge patio right on the beach. Then we did a beach walk ads she took many pictures of the Beach Crowd especially the food venders where they were selling cooked fish and shrimp on a stick like a Kebab. Also the Pineapple vender making a pineapple salad also twigged her interest.
Just as we finished our Beach Walk a Mexican boat from our Park had just landed and they had 4 nice fish, 3 Dorados and 1 Wahoo all over 20 lbs. Margaret had not seen this type of fish before so she got some great pictures. We took Margaret back to her hotel ( the De Cameron ) in Busiria as she had an enjoyable day and got more exposure to the Mexican culture. cheers

Storm Heading our Way 24 Jan 2015
Our topic today is the weather and it is very, very humid but there was a nice breeze. The wind is called the "Santana winds " and is hot and humid because it blows across the hot desert.
Apparently a storm that left Hawaii several days ago will land on our shores today and tomorrow. First I must admit that nobody in our group are qualified Meteorologist, however 2 guys are ex-pilots or I should say retired pilots so they do have some insight to weather. They are also fishermen and they do watch the weather closely.
Well, the storm did not arrive today but it was cloudy all day and we were threaten with rain. "Threaten" means we received a "few " drops. However, the storm may come tomorrow.
Since weather is a short topic we some switched to boat motors. There was quite a discussion about who built which motor and which ones are the best today. I don't know much about boat motors except I do know the cost a fortune and they can be a piss-off when they do not work. What brought up this topic was the Old Geezers where watching two Mexican fishermen trying to start a old Evanrude motor. They are residence of our Park and they have been working on it for two days and it is becoming a bit annoying hearing them trying to start it. They finally got it running so they prepared to launch and go fishing. Bob #1 did not like the launching so he got his 4 WD and help them launch and retrieved the trailer for them.
The motor might have been old but they returned at 2:30 PM and they had 4 real nice fish weighing about 20 Plus pounds each.
The rest of the day was siting on the patio soaking up the breeze as it was too hot and humid to do anything else. cheers

Bread Machine Bites the dust 23 Jan 2015
For anyone who has been to MX , you will know that their bread is not the same as our bread in Canada. In the small town bakeries , it is either " cake like " or too fine of grain. The large stores like Wal-Mart and Costco do have bread that is acceptable but we tend to frequent small cities and town so we bring along our bread machine AND our flour.
Today Carroll decided to make raisin bread so out comes the Bread Machine. She thru the ingredients in machine and it automatically was set to 3 hours.
Then Carroll thru a load in the washing machine ( yes we have a washing /dryer combo in the rig ) and therefore her day is practically done except to hit the pool or the beach. By the way, the washing machine takes an hour to wash a small load. I wonder what famous Engineer could design a washing machine, which cost 1500.00 and then takes an hour to wash 2 sheets. However, time is something we have lots of.
Well, we left the bread machine and the washing machine to do their work while we went the beach to soak up the Sun and read a book.
When we returned several hours later , I check the bread machine only to find the bread burnt on the bottom. After wrestling the loaf out of the machine I noticed one of the mixing arms was stuck in the burnt bread. Then I put the mixing arm back in the machine and realized I could not turn one arm. Upon further inspection I realized the bearing seized causing the bread to burnt. The machine is now part of the MX junk pile. However, I'm sure that if I taken it to a mechanic he could repair it.
I say that because an guy from Sask hit a tree branch with his MH,on the way here and smashed the motor and bracket that automatically operates his patio awning. He took the pieces to a mechanic shop in our small town and the mechanic say to come back in three days. Amazingly, it was repaired and is now working. We never under estimate the ability of the Mexican people.
On our way back from the beach we stopped to say hi to Dave and Joanne and I ask Dave what he was up to. He said we have to go out for supper because the stove broke. I said how could it break, it's only 3 years old. He says , all I know is that Joanne says the stove is broke , we are going out for supper; would you like to join us and before I got a chance to say No, Carroll said Yes. So we went out for supper. Apparently , Joanne's stove it breaks every Friday night.
Another couple joined us and we went to an really nice Italian restaurant. Most restaurants are within walking distance from our Park and there are many. cheers

Hot Pools 22 Jan 2015
The Hot Pools story can wait. We have to deal with the "Old Geezer" meeting first. The chairman " Swain " was missing and so was Eli ( actually his name is Elliott ) was also missing so the topic was very mild.
Somehow we got on the topic of aircraft and Bob #1 is an Engineer, a Commercial pilot , retired and a real dedicated fisherman , and a good one as he has a Fishing Lodge in N. Ontario. So he educated us on different Aircraft that he flew and some of the problems he encountered in his career , especially landing and takeoff incidents. However, he walked us thru the procedure when he lost one engine on a Aircraft with 4 engines which was very interesting and if I do say so. At least it was more interesting than the normal B. S. we have most mornings.
Now for the Hot Pools; The hot pools are located 36 KM from Guayabitos however it takes 1 1/2 hours to reach them by road so you can imagine what type and condition of the roads we had to travel over.
There are 31 hot pools, and are an attraction for the Snowbirds in this area. When we arrived there where about 20 people there and there was another 30 people arrived while we were there. There was 8 of us. Beside having a few beer , most folks either bring a picnic lunch or like us bring a Bar-B-Q and to cook some hamburgs and hotdogs. Each pools holds about 6 to 10 pers and the temperature varies in each pools. It was a great experience and I'm sure we will do a return trip the next time we are in Guayabitos.
Now we had to return to our Park by 5 PM as one couple ( Lou and Becky ) hosted a supper for the entire park. The had , what they called a " Good Luck " supper which was Pulled Pork, Sauerkraut and mashed potatoes. Most of us had never heard of a Good Luck supper but I can assure you we all showed up and it was great. Apparently , it is a Germany custom. cheers

Carroll's New Ring Jan 21 2014
The talk around the Old Geezers table this morning started about the weather and if it was going to be a good day to go fishing. It's funny how all the guys that never fish seem to have all the answers about whether or not that this would be good day to fish. However, those who actually know all about the weather and the fishing acumen usually ignore those who never fish.
After about 15 minutes of should I or shouldn't go fishing , one guys says that's it, I'm going and 15 minutes later 2 boats are in the water. Geo from Edm couldn't go as he had already scheduled a Trail ride with the "Quad" club. Decisions : Decisions.
After the fishermen where launched we return to the table and of course the topic was president Obama's speech last evening. Boy!!! I didn't know that we Canadians were so well versed in US politics. If Obama would just listen to us , it would be so much easier to run his country.
Carroll had picked our a ring and her birthstone at the market last week so we had to go to the town of Lo de Marco ( 14 KM away ) to pick it up as that is where the Jeweler has his store. The ring was made of .95 ( something) of silver as if we could tell the difference. The jewelry clerk said the ring cost 900 P but she would sell it for 800 P because that was the price that our friend paid for hers. What a deal!!! Since Carroll rationalized that we had saved 100 P on the ring she spotted a bracelet made of Iguana skin and Goat skin. " I" ask the price and Jeweler said 250 P and before I got say no, she said 200 P for you. So now Carroll has a ring and a bracelet for about a 100.00. Cdn.
While in Lo de Marcos we dropped in to see Bob and Linda who are the couple who invited us to the birthday party on 6 Jan. We are leaving on 1 Feb and may not get another chance to see them.
Now that we have the afternoon to kill, we decided to hit the pool to cool off, as opposite to the ocean. There is never anything wrong with ocean/beach but we got lots of Sun yesterday at Chacala so the pool will be enough for today. Cheers

Chacala, MX Jan 20 ( 2015 )
This day had all the ear marks of a lazy day even from the "get go" as the Old Geezer didn't even have a worthy topic for our meeting. I was going to say the "meeting of the minds" but that would be a stretch. Our only topic was whether the " Sandboni " does a good job of reclaiming the beach.
I may have mentioned it before that the "Sandboni " is a machine that is part rock picker and part cultivator. The idea is to clean the beach daily, of garbage and to smooth the sand. I would like to take a picture but it works between 4 and 5 AM and I may be an early riser but 5 AM is a tad to early.
Now for Chacala. This a beach Town about 30 KM away that has a couple of miles of a beautiful beach with several restaurants. The town also has several hotels but some hotels are a block or so from the beach and the streets are all cobble stone, which makes walking to the beach slightly trouble some , especially for seniors. The attraction for Snowbirds must be the beach and solitude because there is no shopping to speak of.
I did speak with a guy on the beach, who spends the winter in Chacala and he said that during the Christmas New Year holiday there was 60 Buses a day bringing people to the beach and the beach was wall to wall people.
All that to say that we went to Chacala for the day and there was very few people on the beach. Apparently, it is never real busy during the week , hence, the reason many of us Snowbirds go there on week days.
We enjoyed the day at the beach and even had a nice lunch of fish and Shrimp.
When we were in Yuma an RVer in this park needed a part for his MH and through a third party he heard I was coming to Guayabitos . Although he did know it at the time ( but I did ) that we had met 5 years ago and I remember his name and that he was a business man from Peace River. Long story short, I picked up his part and delivered it. He was so grateful that he and his wife insisted that they buy us supper so they took us out tonight to the best restaurant in town. This restaurant is located high above the town with a million dollar view of the bay, which is more impressive at night than during the day. cheers

Guayabitos Jan 19 2015
This was a fairly non-descript day at Guayabitos. There was only 4 of at the Old Geezers table this morning and Alaska Dave (aka Mickey Rooney ) was telling us the trials and tribulation about owning a house in Mexico. In fact he says you never really know if you own it until you try to sell and above all never consider it an investment. In 2004 he " obtain" a piece of property thru a written contract in MX and built a 3000 Sq Ft home. The deal was that he would pay for the property once the Land owner got the property subdivided. It hasn't happened yet. If he loses the house sometime in the future he say he will considered it as fairly reasonable rent.
This morning we went to the Arty's Farty's crat market which is held every Monday and has mostly Jewelry, Tee shirts and other crap we don't need. Then we went to la Pentia to a Jewelry store to purchase a Birthday gift for our G/daughter. By the time we got home it was Pool time so after a quick lunch we headed to the pool. Apparently we were not the only ones who needed pool time as there was about 16 of in the pool. It actually is a good time to swap travel stories and I for one gained a wealth of knowledge for the next leg of our trip since one couple did the same trip last year.
I kind of had to snicker as the pool regulations says ( in Spanish ) " No Alcohol " in the pool and the only one who did not have an alcohol drink was Carroll. While in the pool we heard of a Chinese restaurant in La Penita so we decided to do Chinese "takeout " for supper . It cost 65 P ( 6.00 ) and there is enough for lunch the next day. I have added a couple of pics but that is the best I can do. I need help in this area but I'm working on it. Cheers

Winterof 2015 in MX ( Jan 18 )
Starting on the 19 Jan I plan to change my Post (Heading) as to better identify our location since we will be leaving Guayabitos on 1 Feb. and heading towards TX but not leaving MX on or about 28 Feb.
There wasn't any Old Geezers meeting today ( you actually need 5 for a Quorum) as two boats went out by 6:30, which was before I got there and some of the Old Geezers were either late or forgot to get up on time.
Carroll and I didn't even get to the beach or the pool . Instead we watched Curling and then Football. After the Seattle/ Green Bay fiasco we retried to the Happy Hour patio where the 3 American couples were cheering as Seattle won in OT. The Canadians were sort of Ho Hum .
I'm still trying to get pictures on the Blog , I just lack some training. Cheers

One of the latest members to the Old Geezers is a guy whose vehicles are "licensed " in Alaska. He an his wife have a home in Alaska, one in San Diego and another one in San Carlo, MX. He also has a Yacht, which is parked in the Pacific coast somewhere. He is the "spitting " imagine of Mickey Rooney so we call him "mickey" of course. His wife is a Lawyer and Judge and amazingly enough she does look a little like "Judge Judy". He is great for the Old Geezers because very knowledgeable on many topics and doesn't hesitate to challenge some of the B.S. I will try to get a picture of him hopefully with his hat on.
Well, today (hopefully ) is the day I get my car at 1 PM. My friend Swain was going to town ( at ( 9 AM ) so he suggested we drive my the Shop to verify the 1 PM pickup. When we got to the shop the mechanic was polishing the car and said come back at one. Then he said, be sure to be here before 2 PM because I closed at 2 PM. I know tomorrow is Sunday and we have been without a car since Tuesday, so I WILL be on time.
We returned at 1 PM and the car was ready. I was amazed at the workmanship and the paint match. I ask several people to look at my car and tell be were it was repaired and they could not tell. It cost 5500 P or about 500.00 Cdn.
So now it is Beach time as the temp has just reached 100 F. therefore it was Beer, Book and Beach for the next few hours. After Happy Hour and since we did not plan for supper we decided to go to the local restaurant named the Pelican. The last time we were here this restaurant was called "Tequila Willie's " but he has died so I guess a " Pelican " bought but the food is great. cheers.

Winterof 2015 in MX ( Jan 16 )
There was no meeting of Old Geezers today because we had to launch 3 boats starting at 6:30 AM so by the time we get the 3 boats launched some of the "Geezers " have to have breakfast at exactly 7:30 AM. You would think the world might end if they did not eat on schedule. No wonder they are called Old Geezers. Myself and Stan shoot the breeze until 8 AM.
Bob #1 was first to launch and he is an American but from Lake of the Woods and his wife is a Cdn with duel citizenship. The second boat was Geo from Pigeon Lake but has or had a business in Edm. His boat is a beauty, about 24 ft with twins 70's and he has a tandem trailer constructed of all Aluminum with a 8 ft extendable tongue. This was the maiden voyage for Ed's boat so his wife Myrna went with him. The third boat belongs to Ed from Okotoks. It is a 18 ft with a 65 motor and he launches it with a Quad so it is fairly easy to launch. However all the boat need 3 people to launch and the chances are that 2 people will get wet including "yours Truly ". Unfortunately ED got skunked on his maiden voyage.
My car is still in the Body Shop until Saturday but I decided to visit it just to see how it was coming and maybe to make sure it was still in MX. The Body Shop ( actually a yard ) was locked but I could see that my car was being worked on so no need to worry.
In the afternoon I helped to retrieve 2 of the 3 boats and of course when you land boats in the ocean you get wet. It seems that the waves are highest when we land the boats.
Sometimes in the afternoon a group of us , just sit on the patio along the beach and watch the people on the beach. It's not above our capacity to make comments, ( within the group only), about those walking, running or just sunning themselves. Yesterday , a 6 piece band came along on the beach and someone paid them to play and it happen to be close to us. They had a Drum and a Tuba among other instruments and they were loud, so much so that we thought of paying them to get lost.
Anyhow we suffered thru the music until Happy Hour which pretty much ends the day for everyone. cheers

Winter of 2015 in MX (Jan 15 )
OK, I'm back on track after my mix up with the 13 and 14. Also I will try to add some picture but no promises.
Our car is still at the Body shop and will be there until 1 PM on Sat so we don't have any wheels but we "had " to got to the Thursday market in La Penita . Why because Carroll had an appointment to pick out a stone for a ring she wanted.
Since we had no wheels we planned to grab a cab which will cost 30 P ( less than 3.00. However, another couple where just leaving the park and gave us a ride to the market. It was crowded and I should have taken a picture but the camera is in the car. " My Bad ".
Anyway, we fought our way thru the crowd hunting for the Jeweler which also means we were slightly hassled to buy a table cloth salesman which we agreed to check his wares later. We found the Jeweler and Carroll picked out a Garnet Stone. I being more interested in the price said "how much" and she said 900 P, of course I said not a chance. then the girls said, oh remember I sold you friend a ring for 800 P so I will give you the same deal. We agreed, but I probably could have got her down to 700 P.
Now back to the table cloth salesman. After looking thru about 20 table cloths Carroll found one she liked so; as the money guy, I said how much and he said 250 P, I your nuts so he countered with 220 P and I said 200 P and so he said I can't do that so I took 200 P out of my wallet and said do want to sell the table cloth or not and he said OK.
On the way out of the Market Carroll spotted a "Dress Boutique" , the word Boutique might be a strength, so she picked out one that looks good in MX but will never see the light of day in Medicine Hat. We also got it for 200 P. Now to find a taxi to get home. They have a stand near the market so we got a ride home for 300P ( less than 3 bucks ).
The rest of the day was either at the beach or just doing nothing until Happy Hour. cheers

Winter of2015 in MX (Jan 14 )
In my haste to catch up with my Blog I mixed the 13 and the 14 together. Beer and Sun will do the that to you. Life's a Bitch but if you spend 4 months on the beach it is a lot easier to handle. You might get the 15 th today and you might not. cheers
Winter of 2015 in MX ( Jan 13)
The Old Geezers club this morning was mostly talking about " will I or won't I" go fishing. Bob #1 is just itching to get out on the ocean but weather report is for rough seas. However, the two Frenchmen from the next park already went out so it can't be that rough. It was decided that it was too rough so nobody from our park went out today.
We invited two couples for supper tonight so we put a roast in crock pot complete with vegetable which make for a easy meal. The crock pot is outside so as not to heat up the MH. Also we will eat in our patio.
Shortly after getting the supper in the crock pot ; in walks the Body mechanic and he motions ( we don't speak each other language ) to bring the car to his shop. I get in the car to drive to his shop and he jumps in the co-pilots seat. I quickly deduce that he was dropped off and he is directing me to his shop. ( It is funny how they operate, but it is MX ) Once at his shop I "tried " to make him understand that I want my car back no later than Saturday and I think he agreed. Then he needed the year of the car so he could obtain the paint code. I could not understand the question so he took out his license and pointed to the year so I finally understood. Then he ask for money up front which I wasn't too fond of until I realize this is policy in MX as he needs to buy the paint. It was only 200 P ( 18.00 ) .
My friend Tom arrived to pick me up and he speak passive Spanish so he verified that I would have my car by Sat , but I know that does really mean " Diddle Squat" to Mexicans.
We are still trying to find a Pharmacy "Farmaica " to fill a prescription for Carroll but neither Costco in PV or the 3 Pharmacies in La Penita had the medicine . But one pharmacy in La Penita suggested we try the one in Lo de Marco which is a little town 14 KM away. I kind of laugh because I though if Costco doesn't have it why would some "Hole in the wall" have it. Besides, we have been to Lo de Marco many times and we never seen a Farmacia .
As it turns out, our friends , Tom and Maureen suggested that we go to another small town, called San Fransico to have lunch at a beach restaurant. This is very beautiful town about 24 KM away with an exceptional surfing beach so it attracts many of the younger crowd but it does not have any RV Park hence it doesn't attract many seniors.
Since Lo de Marco is on our way, our friends said they would gladly drive into town and to see if we could find this Farmacia. We seen a Farmacia sign so Tom pulled close to the sidewalk and I seen that it was just a "hole in the wall" meaning you had to stand on the sidewalk and do business thru a small window. I thought never in million years that this place would have the medicine but I walked up, handed the lady the prescription and she said, tablet or liquid. The cost was 60 P. Unbelievable!!!!.
To top it off, as I step out car I happen to look down at something on the street which I initially thought it was a dirty piece of paper but I seen a 50 thru the dirt so I picked up and dusted it off and it was 500 P ( 45.00 ) so I agreed to buy lunch. Nothing cheap about me.
Today, is Ed's 70 th Birthday and his wife Pat is throwing a big party on the patio at the park. Pat and Ed are from Okotoks and we met them the year we went to Australia. Pat and Ed had been to Australia a few months before we were going so a mutual friend introduced us and Pat and Ed gave us their itinerary and a map which was a big help to us.
Now for the party.
The party was great. There must have been a 100 people and they had a Music man and his music was the best I have seen here. Pat also hired a Taco Stand and they served pork Tacos which turn out to great way to feed a party group. It was much less work to organize than a Pot Luck and Pat wanted the party to be less hassle for everyone.
As a side note we met a couple ( Ernie and Linda )from Camrose at the party who just arrived 3 days ago. The owned the A and W in Camrose for many years. Great Party and another great day in Paradise. cheers

Winter of 2015 in MX ( Jan 12)
Well, the Old Geezers met this AM but Elia, ( the resident book of Knowledge ) was missing, apparent he attended 3 B'Day in consecutive evenings and that was a little to much to make the meeting so the conversation was general in natural. In lieu of that topic, I'll give you a short background on Stan, the senior member. Stan is from Campbell River, BC where he was a business man. He has been coming to MX for 31 years and he has been coming to this park Parisio de Pascador for 18 years. He has a banana tree in his patio area and brings each of us a banana every morning when they are ripe. He is usually the second or third person to arrive but he does have a certain spot at the table which nobody would bother to take it. He is not above being the "shit disturber" but he is certainly the " Go To " if you need to know where to get a repair part for your MH. Needless to say " Stan is the Man ".
I mentioned earlier that I had 3 large dents on the driver side of our car and the Bodyman gave me an estimate on 5500 P ( 500.00 ) . I thought we agreed that he would pick up the car on Monday, apparently we did not agree on which Monday. I even drove down his shop thinking I was suppose to deliver it even when other friends said that he would pick it up. So I waited all day Monday with a No Show. I then decide that first thing Tuesday I would have the Park manager call to verify the date.
Anyhow I had a couple of job pending so I decided to attack then. First I noticed that the fridge was having a hard time freezing thing, like ice cubes once the afternoon soon hits the fridge vent (dam Sun ) . Therefore, I took a sheet of cardboard and taped it to the vent to look like an awning allowing air to circulate normally but to deflect the heat of the Sun. It is helping but it is not an Engineering marvel.
Next I went back to the Day/Night blind which I had abandoned a couple of days earlier. After spending an hour trying to sort out the string and looking at a "Google " video and having Carroll supervise and providing some useless knowledge I did the only thing to keep my sanity; I cut the strings to the "Day " part of the blind and turned it into my version of a manually operated day-nighter . It was obvious that not much was going to work for me today so why not hit the beach with a couple of beer and a good book.

After spending an hour trying to sort out the string and looking at a "Google " video and having Carroll supervise and providing some useless knowledge I did the only thing to keep my sanity; I cut the strings to the "Day " part of the blind and turned it into my version of a manually operated day-nighter . It was obvious that not much was going to work for me today so why not hit the beach with a couple of beer and a good book.
Another excellent decision. cheers

Winter of 2015 in MX ( Jan 11)
The Old Geezers meeting this morning was quite Funny, I guess you could say, it was pick on Swain day. Yesterday Swain and another couple decided to go to a Rodeo at a small town about 10 KM away and being westerners they had some idea how a Rodeo was operated. Swain relayed the story to us.
The brochures said the Rodeo start time was 1 PM and the cost at the gate was 250 P ( 22.00 ) which they thought was a bit high for a small town but probably worth it. By the way they went by Taxi as they knew they would have a few beers.
After getting to the Rodeo grounds in good time they soon realized that the Rodeo was run on MX time and there was no hurray to get start. In fact the rodeo did not start until 4 PM but there was lots of beers for a price of 250 P
(2.00 ) when we only pay 100 P at most pubs.
Additionally, the toilets were basic; it was a roll of black plastic wrapped around a circle of posts and you did your job in this area with the rest of the community. As Swain says , if you drink beer you have to dump it somewhere.
The Rodeo finally got started but when darkness fell the lights came on and they were less than adequate so you could not see all the activity. One of the things they found different was the Bull Ride. The Rider grabs the rope to hold on but he does not mount the Bull until the gate opens and at that point the Rider jumps on the Bull's back. Needless to say, very few Riders complete the ride. Also there are no pick up horses for the Bareback riders.
Finally around 7:30 Swain and friends had enough of a small town rodeo, agreed that they over-paid for the fun they received and grabbed a taxi and came home. I don't think small town Rodeos are going to be hit with us RVers, however the one in PV is comparable to the Calgary Stampede.
That was enough laughing for the day because we have a "Day/Nighter " blind that broke 2 strings, which happens all to frequent in RVs. However, Carroll and I have "restrung" several blinds in the pass and we carry the repair kits. So we removed the blind and laid it out on our outside table and began to "operate " on it. You really need a needle to thread the new string but it can be done without the needle with a limited amount of swearing . After playing with for about an hour in the hot sun while others were in the pool or on the beach , we said " P**s on it and went to the beach. The dam blind can wait. More on this blind another day.
So we grabbed a beer or two , along with our Sun umbrella, two chairs and a book and we spent a few hours at the beach. It's funny how 3 hours of beach time can wash away any small problems. Nothing else to worry about except Happy Hour and supper. cheers

Winter of 2015 in MX ( Jan 10 )
Same old start to the day... nothing like a meeting of the "Minds " to get the day started. Today it was Elia with the most to add to the subject at hand. Now, Elai is from FT. Steele and is/was a Rancher and was also involved with Logging mainly as an heavy Equipment operator from what I can gather. He is well versed in the operation and maintenance of all internal combustion engine. He drive a Dodge.
Today for some reason we got on to the subject of different segments of the population and little did we know the Elia is well versed on Police , Teachers, Politian's and CEOs of any large company. It hard to imagine just how much knowledge one person can obtain from working as a Rancher and a Logger. This just proves that going to University is a waste of time and money. ha ha .
Today at 9 AM we volunteered to take our friends to the Airport (Aeropuorto ) in PV ( 65 km ) as they were flying to Vancouver for a few days. One would think that going 65 KM would be, maybe a 2 hour round trip. Not in MX. If you are going to PV you may as well go to Costco, if you can find it. I do no were it is located; it's the dam street I can't find easily. The marker is the Krystal Hotel and you have to immediately enter the right lateral at the hotel to make a left turn to enter the street to Costco (only in MX ) but if you miss the off ramp, too bad you have to try again at the next off ramp. Yes.. I miss the Dam off ramp.
Finally we got to Costco and amazingly its' layout is exactly like the ones in N.A. So we meandered around looking at the different thinks they have here and also picking up some goods. It is Americanized , in that you can buy wine and Booze right in the store but not until noon on Sunday.
We shop at Costco about once every two weeks and seldom see anyone we know. While shopping in PV we met the couple we drove down here with, amazing.
While heading home Carroll decided that we should stop for lunch at a place we have never been to before so here we go trying to find " Marios" or maybe it is "Marcos" or is it " Marasinos" , well it sound like that. I drove by the place 3 times until we realized the dam sign was partially hidden by a tree branch. Finally I parked in a neighboring restaurant walk back to Marcisio. The food was good and the beer was cold.
Now we were heading home but had to stop at the Mega store ( MX Wal-Mart) to pick up some meat as it is cheaper than Costco.
We arrive home about 4:30 , just in time for Happy Hour. Also we are invited for Turkey Soup supper at 6 PM with friends. The Turkey was left-over from a previous dinner.
Now that is how you Kill a day in MX. cheers

Winter of 2015 in MX (Jan 9 )
At around 6:30AM I wandered down to the Old Geezers table at the Patio wondering what possible topic we could beat up today. But much to my surprised there was nobody there and I know that Swain is always first across the start line in the morning so I thought there must be reason. When I got to the patio I could see the reason: Bob #1 was going fishing and it incumbent for the onlookers to help launch his boat and retrieve the trailer. We do not have a boat launch, as you just launch the boat across the beach into the ocean and then retrieve the trailer by attaching a rope to the launch vehicle, normally a jeep.
You notice I said Bob #1 that's because there are 3 Bob's and the first one to arrive get the #1 name. There are also 2 Dave's and 2 George's and there was 2 Tom's but one has left.
Incidentally Bob #1 was "Skunked " 3 times so the fishing is not that good yet. Apparently it picks up in Feb.
We finally go a MX cell phone and it cost 200 P ( 20.00 )and that includes 100 Minutes. Our friend called so we could enter their number and neither one of us could answer because we did not know which button to push. There is no "green " telephone on the key pad.
I also needed to fill the car with gas so I went to the nearest Pemex for a fill up and I rec a free car wash, MX style; two guys using a power washer, with a bucket of soapy water and they dry it off.
We finished off the day by laying out trip plans for Feb. We forgot to bring our MX travel " Bible " so we hope to borrow one from friends who will not need theirs because they are going directly out to AZ. Actually " WE" did not forget our book; Carroll put it in the MX pile and I removed it to read about something and left on the coffee table. I told Carroll it is not her fault but I'm still blaming her. ha ha . cheers

Winter of 2015 in MX (Jan 7 and 8)
Jan 7: Don and Carol from Onanole , MB dropped into Rincon for a visit . When the were RVers ( they now live in Florida ) they spent many winter in Rincon and Lo de Marcos and that is were we met them about 8 years ago. I know you are saying : Where the hell is Onanole... ask Mr. Google but it is near Clear Lake, MB.
Anyhow, they decided to walk to La Penita, a town about 2 KM away and invited us to met them at a local "Watering Hole" called Himmes for lunch. They said they like to walk everyday but they did not realize the temperature was around 85 F. We met them at Himmes at Noon and they were beat.. in fact they looked like a wet rag before it was wrung out. I immediately ask if they would like a ride home and Don said I'm glad you ask because I was just going to ask for a ride.
Another couple , friends of Don and Carol also joined us . They are from Minden, ON so Now I had ask, where the hell is Minden, ON. After 3 tacos and a couple beer to quench our thirst we return to the park for a rest.
After Happy Hour , Don and Carol invited us and another couple to join them for supper which we accepted. After 2 meals and a few beers I was ready for bed. This is just another way to "Kill" a day in Rincon. cheers
Jan 8: It is not hard to surmise that this would be a slow day after yesterday. It was salon quite hot and since the ocean was a little rough we defaulted to our heated (82 F) pool for a few hours. Several members of the park also chose the pool over the ocean today.
After we had enough of the pool we decided to go shopping for Yogurt, as we like to make a smoothie for breakfast everyday. Most small store called OXXO ( our version would be 7/11 or as I call them the Bin Ladin store since they are all run by Muslums ) carry a large array of goods but then never have Yogurt with fruit, just the plain yogurt and I need fruit Yogurt . After checking several OXXO store, ( they are on every corner ) we gave up and decided to tour a small town on the water ,about 2 KM away. It does have a couple of RV parks but they did not have many customers. After driving up and down both streets we return to our abode and caught up on some reading. I have yet to finish one book so you can guess how busy we must be . Carroll hasn't even cracked a book yet as reading is not her strong suite. cheers

Winter of 2015 in MX ( Jan 6 ) Carroll's Birthday
The day started like every other day; I get up at 5 AM but Carroll stays in bed until 8 AM. It a "promise" she made to herself once she retired , unless there is a greater need.
Later today we are invited to a party at our friends, Bob and Linda at their park in Lo de Marco about 14 KM away. Lo De, as we all call it is a small town , but not touristy, on the beach and it has at least 6 RV parks. Bob and Linda are hosting a surprise party for Bob's sister who is visiting and has a Birthday, so since we know his two sisters we are invited. They don't know it is Carroll's B'day and we did not want to spoil the surprise by telling them until we get there.
I should mentioned that we met Bob and Linda in Playa del Carman about 8 years ago and it is nice that we still keep in contact.
Now to kill the day until the party starts at 5PM. I needed a haircut so I checked with a friend for a barber and then headed out to find the barber shop. Actually, they are hair Salons as I have never seen a male Barber shop in this town. When asked by my Barber at home , how I want my hair cut , I usually say " quickly and quietly" but since I don't speak Spanish I just say Medium even though I don't really know what the means.
Then I reminded Carroll that she was out of coffee so we ask friends where the local "Coffee Roaster" was located . I remember buying coffee from the roaster years ago but forgot the address, so to speak. There are no addresses in Guayabitos, there are just locations. The direction are; the Roaster is on the hwy, just passed the light , next to the Tire shop on the west side of the road and if you see the Pemex you have gone too far. AAh I said, now I remember; you can't there from here!!!! Well I found it even though Carroll advised me that I made an illegal left turn. So what.. I'm in MX. I bought a Kilo of coffee for 12.00 . We will like buy another Kilo before we leave here.
At 4:30 we headed to party and we got to met friends we had not seen in a while. The party was great and Bob and Linda made a great Fajita supper and the B'day cake was huge. It was at least 2 ft by 1 ft and 6 inches high. It was made by the cook at a local restaurant their cakes are moist and always very tasty. Suffice to say it was a great party but Linda and Bob always go all out when the host a party. We all appreciate the effort the put into the supper for all of us. Cheers

Visit to the doctor ( 2015 Jan 5 )
Carroll has had a terrible cough off and on for about 20 years and it usually last for months. She has visited many doctors starting in Ontario in the early 90's. She has even been seen by an Nose and Throat specialist but no doctor has helped and in fact most brush it off as a cough that will go away with an over the counter medicine.
Shortly after we got to Guayabitos a friend dropped in for a visit and ask Carroll about her cough which was real bad. Our friends ( Bob and Linda ) both had a medical problem shortly after the arrived. A friend told them to contact a clinic ( run by a nurse named Pamela Thompson ) in PV who would find them a doctor, which they did and their condition was solve quite quickly.
This is how it worked the system works; You call (email ) Pamela and explain your condition and she gets you an appoint with the Specialist and a Family doctor. On 31 Dec we email Pamela asking if she could help with Carroll's continuous coughing. Within an hour she replied asking several questions such as are you a smoker, is a wet or dry cough, are you congested, when did last see a doctor, when was your last chest x-ray etc. Of course we replied immediately and she advised us the she would get a doctor shortly in the new Year.. On 2 Jan she replied that we had an appointment with a specialist at the hospital in PV at 1 PM on the 5 Jan. Now that is service. By the way, this service is free and we have never met Pamela.
Today we visit the doctor. We arrived at the hospital 15 mins early and was directed to the Admission desk where Carroll was told that the doctor would see her shortly, which happened. The doctor ask the proverbial first meeting but in depth questions, including when she had a chest x-ray. This took about 1/2 an hour. He then sent Carroll for an x-ray and Carroll was second in line. Once the x-ray was taken they give it to you after you pay the 450 P, about 40.00 Cdn, and then you return to the doctors office for further consultation. He explain the x-ray in depth and pointed out that Carroll's right lung has reduced in size which is probably the reason she is always short of breath. He then did a physical check on her chest and stomach. He then gave Carroll a prescription for 3 medicines which should clear her cough in about 4 weeks. He also sold Carroll a breathing Instrument to expand her lung. He also suggested 3 other potential causes, along with the shortage of breath that could lead to her continuous cough.
Now for the out of pocket cost, as we did not call our insurance company. X-ray 450 P, Breathing Instrument 240 P, and the doctors fee 440 P. That is about 100.00 Cdn. It's hard to believe that not one doctor Medicine Hat did not considered Carroll's cough serious enough to send her to a Specialist.
The appointment took about 1 1/2 hours so that left us time to visit "Costco"

Winter in MX ( Jan 4 )
Same old start to the day. I grab my cup of tea and report to the "old Gezzers " table, ready for the debate on any subject. One particular guy ( Swain ) is usually first at the table and he always wipes off the plastic chairs for the rest of us, as the humidity is extremely high causing heavy dew. Swain was a Boiler maker and a Pipe Fitter and he spent many years constructing Heating Plants in many countries around the world so he has many stories to tell.
After breakfast, while having our Tea and Coffee on our patio our friends ( Ken and Mirim from another RV park) who traveled down with us dropped in for a chat since they were in town shopping. We were also trying to schedule a dinner date , however it hard to believe that, two couples on vacation are so busy that can't schedule a dinner date but that's life in MX.
The festive season in this area is slowing down as the Mexicans are starting to head home so with some room on the beach we decided to spending a few hours toning up our Tan. Also the ocean is calm today so we will take advance and go for a dip. Carroll does not like the breakers.
Later in the day some friends invited us to go for a Pizza for supper. We accepted the offer as it does take much of an offer to get us to go out to supper. Besides , it was our first Pizza in MX and we definitely have to taste the Mexican food. ha ha. And that is how our first Sunday in 2015 went. cheers

We were also trying to schedule a dinner date , however it hard to believe that, two couples on vacation are so busy that can't schedule a dinner date but that's life in MX.
The festive season in this area is slowing down as the Mexicans are starting to head home so with some room on the beach we decided to spending a few hours toning up our Tan. Also the ocean is calm today so we will take advance and go for a dip. Carroll does not like the breakers.
Later in the day some friends invited us to go for a Pizza for supper. We accepted the offer as it does take much of an offer to get us to go out to supper. Besides , it was our first Pizza in MX and we definitely have to taste the Mexican food. ha ha. And that is how our first Sunday in 2015 went. cheers

Winter in MX 2015 ( Jan 2 and 3 )
I USUALLY MAKE A NOTE ON THE CALANDER, for my blog, SO I CAN JOG MY MEMORY AS TO WHAT I DID ON EACH DAY, but there is no notes for today. I'm sure that I attended the "Old Gezzers " round table discussion as it is pretty routine and we normally attended the Happy hour at 5 at 5 PM but other than that I'm drawing a blank as to what activities took place during the day. So I will stop boring you for the 2 Jan....
Jan 3 was a very active day as the painter came to finish sanding and to paint the 2 cargo doors. As I mentioned earlier the neighbors were not happy with the paint smell but as I said we did cocoon the area. It took most of the day to prepare the final finish to paint and then each coat had to dry. So the job was not completed until early afternoon.
When I went to pay the mechanic the price went from 550.00 P to 580.00P and I said what for... he said for the paint. Then I did recall that all their estimates are for labour only and they usually ask for money to buy the paint in advance. This is normal practice in small town MX.
In conclusion, I'm tickled pink with the finished product. So it was agood day. cheers

New Years Day, 2015 in MX ( Jan 1)
Jan 1 is normally a Statuary holiday or ( a day of Recovery ) for us in North America but not so for MX. However, in MX it looks more like a normal work day as most businesses are open. Let me start from the first of my story.
When we purchased the MH, two of the cargo doors were scratched along the bottom and I always intended to get an estimated in Canada but never got around to it. When we decide to winter in MX I thought I might get it done down here. While visiting our friends in the RV park ,next to us I seen a guy painting a boat so I inquired if he did vehicles. My friend said that he was highly recommended and in fact he was having his front bumper repainted. I ask, thru an interpreter , if the MX body Mechanic would give me an estimate. He immediately followed me home and give me an estimated of 550 P ( about 50.00 ). I'm thinking, is he serious, 50 bucks so I said how soon can you start, thru the interpreter he said Wed and after he left I started thinking , what Wed???, because Wed is New years Eve. On Wed he came and ask for the door handle so he could match the paint. In MX they don't use paint codes, they match it perfectly. On Thursday, Jan 1 his helper shows up to sand and prepare the 2 doors. Several hours later the Mechanic showed up to check on his worker so I ask when he was going to paint the doors. He said something so I replied with " Mahayana" and he made a faces as if to say , not likely, so I let it go because he will not be paid until it is completed.
I should mentioned that I ask permission from the manager to paint the doors and he answered with yes, IF your neighbor doesn't mind. I ask the neighbor, who is 2 spaces away and he said I guess so but his wife was not so accommodating but did not say no.
On Sat they returned to paint the doors, however there was a slight wind and of course the paint smell drifted to the not so accommodating neighbors and they were not happy and they said so. They closed up their trailer and went to the beach.
So, to stop the drifting paint smell I got a huge tarp from the Park and sort of cocooned the area and that help to prevent the smell from drifting.
The neighbors are now talking to me.
However, the paint job is perfect and several guys in the park who I have named " The Inspectors " where impressed and one guys is now getting his MH painted.
Now for part Two; While my car was parked at one of the small towns during the festive season, where parking is "haphazard" at best , I got side swiped with 3 good dings in the passage side so I ask the Mechanic for a written estimate from the mechanic and he gave me a estimated of 5500.00 P ( 550.00 Cdn ). This includes painting the whole passage side from the window level down. Can you imagine what that would cost in Canada. I believe he will start it Monday but I insist it be done at his shop, which he wants to do anyway.
I dropped in to see how my friends car bumper turned out and it was a perfect match so this guy is good.
I spend the rest of the day watching WJHC and we were invited to our friends for Supper. While there we met another couple ( Garry and Val )who were ex-military and served in Shilo before us but we knew many of the same people, which dominated the conversation.
Now , Garry is getting some work done on his car. I'm not sure how I got to the front of the line as both Tom and Garry where suppose to be done before my MH. That's Mexico. cheers

New Years Eve in MX 2014 ( Dec 31)
There goes another year and it seems they go faster as we age. In MX the day seemed like any other day; the beach was crowded with locals so we did not even try to find a spare piece of real estate on the Beach. Even our pool was full of Mexicans that were staying at the condo and we were not sure the beer was going that they were drinking so we avoid the pool until the maintenance man "shocked " it.
Our friends Dave and Joanne saved a place at there table at a local restaurant for New Years Eve so we got to join 5 other couple of which 2 couples we did not know. Now we can add 4 more friends to our list. The cost was 25.00 per person and that included a meal at 8:30 PM ; a choice of pork, chicken or scrimp plus 2 drinks and there was a DJ and a singer. They also had Mexican Dancers performing during the intermission and they were dressed in there Regalia.
A 11:45 PM we walked ( 1/2 a block ) back to our Park so we could wish all those in the park a Happy New Year and to watch the Fireworks, (from our patio) on the beach. These Fireworks are now organized but they are very good. By 12: 30 AM everyone was tired or I think they were tired because most of them went home. It is rare to see these same people up passed 9 PM hence the reason I think they were tired. ha ha . See you in2015. cheers

Winter in MX 2014 ( Dec 28;29and 30) WJHC
These days WJHC is foremost for me and amazingly Carroll is also watching it. But to start most days around 6:30 I join the coffee club of about 6 or 8 "old Gezzers" as they call themselves, who meet at the patio which faces the ocean. Usually we solve most of the World problems or should I say we could solve them if only the Politian's would listen. These meeting are usually over by 7:30 as most of the guys joking say they are going back to the RV to cook breakfast for their wife knowing full well they would stave if their wife did cook for them. I on the other hand return to the RV to start the coffee pot to have it ready when Carroll rises at 8 AM. As most people know I do not drink coffee.
Carroll throws a wash on about every third day and all our clothes are dried by the "Solar " dryer. About 1/2 of the RVers take their wash to a local business that does it for a reasonable price. As a point of interest all the sheets, towels etc from the 30 condo rooms are all dried by the solar dryer.
If we have time , we usually hit the beach until the Hockey starts and them we spend the rest of the day watching the WJHC, waiting patiently for the Canadian game. I am surprised that none of the other RVers are interested in the Hockey but they always ask me who won the games.
Tomorrow will be the end of another year... were did it go. cheers

A visit to Home Depot in PV ( Dec27 )
We had to make a run to PV to purchase a new toilet seat. So what happen to the old one. Well , I needed to "rush" to the toilet about two weeks ago ( no more explanation required ) and I sat down quickly and not "accurately " hence the hinges on the plastic seat snapped. I tried duct Tape but it does not stick to the ceramic toilet, so a new seat was in order.
We, mostly Carroll decided that we may as well stop at Costco and Wal-Mart while we are in PV because there must be something we need there.
First you must know that the main street thru PV is 6 lanes ( 3 each way )and you can not usually make a left turn from those 3 lanes. You must get into the lateral which also is 2 and / or 3 lanes where you can then make a left turn and or a U-turn with the light. It is possible to get into the wrong turn lane in the lateral because I have first hand experience and you can not believe how many horns are still working on the Mexican cars.
However , Home Depot is on my left so I have to enter the lateral to turn around. Due to mass confusion I missed the first chance to enter the lateral so I had to grab the next one about 2 or 3 km down the street. By now I think I got the left turn lanes figured out so get in the lateral and make the turn and getting into Home depot should be simple because it is on my right so you would think it would be a right turn, Wrong... you have to get into another frigging lateral and this one has a small entrance without a sign. You guess it.... I missed the entrance so I had to repeat this whole GD circuit again. Now I had to make a "legal" U-turn called a Returno with 2 lanes of traffic trying to enter ( squeeze) into 3 lanes without the help of a light. This take nerve and preferable an old car. Finally we got to Home depot and I got the toilet seat I needed.
Now to find Costco. I ask a Cdn who I met in Home Depot for directions to Costco. He said that is was easy and /or simple. Nothing is simple in MX. He said to drive until I see a certain statue then take a left turn. Unfortunately he did not say to left turn from the lateral so I understood that that the left turn could be made from the main street. That was not the right turn so I ended up in the wrong area of town. All that to say we never did get to Costco.
Now to get to Wal-Mart . We know exactly where Wal-Mart is located and it is on the way home. But again you have to know or (find) the right lateral. Luckily for us the traffic was light so we were no under pressure so found it quite easily. This particular Wal-Mart is located in the middle and attached to 4 or 5 other large stores which is quite different from our vision of Wal-Mart.
After we finished shopping , we headed home and as we know, in advance, that it will be another 1 1/2 hour drive and it was already 3 PM. We were not disappointed as we and 15 other cars got behind another old truck going 20 or 30 kmh so it took us at least 1 1/4 to travel 65 KM to our RV park.
The next trip to PV should be easier since I should know where the hell I'm going. cheers

Winter in MX ( Dec 26 ) World JR. Hockey
Yes; Twelve days of hockey starts today so there will not be much happen other than hockey. I'm the only real hockey Fan in the park although there are a few who do ask me about the NHL scores.
We did do a couple hours at the beach to "tone up " our tan and catch up on some reading. You can not believe how many people are on the beach. The Mexicans "Flock" to the beach by bus during the festive season. I'm sure there is over 100 buses in this small tourist town. The umbrellas are actually touching each other. The beach vendors are doing a booming business because most Mexican eat on the beach. It kind of funny because the Mexican stake out their "claim" at about 5 AM.
Then we did a walk down town ( about 3 blocks )and decided to have our first Taco since arriving here. Amazingly enough there was only 3 other Canadians at the taco stand.
The word during the Christmas season is " don't drive down town unless you really need to" because it is so crowded that it takes 15 mins to go 5 or 6 blocks. It is not uncommon to pull down a street only find out that you have to back up because you are facing a bus or a delivery truck. Most stores move there goods on the sidewalk so you have to walk on the street and it is only one lane because there is street parking.
Well, when you watch 4 hockey games you get tired ; so that's what happened the rest of today. cheers

Winter 2014 in MX ( Dec 25 )
The Kids fly home today but it is also Christmas day so hopefully Santa found the kids in Mexico. Emily and Quinn slept in the MH but Rhett was not taking any chance the Santa would miss him if he slept in the MH so his theory was that Santa had a better chance of finding him in the condo. "Kids Logic ".
Anyway, everyone was up early ( remember they are catching the Taxi between 9 and 9:25.. good luck ) and luckily, Santa filled the sox but left a msg to say that there was another gift at home so that was OK. They brought the Sox over to the MH and each kid got a small Mexican gift in their Sox along with the preverbal orange, candy etc.
Todd and family decide to take a last walk on the beach and hunt for the Tattoo man so Rhett and Quinn could get their previous promised Tattoo. They found the Tattoo man about 8:30 ( remember the 9 AM taxi ) and he did the two boys as time was running out. The taxi arrived at 9 AM, however there was a small hitch as the Taxi Bus was not available so there was 2 cars in lieu but that was OK.
Now, the scramble to finish packing and to depart by 9:15. It was not going to happen on time with that family. After Hugs and Kisses all around the taxi left the RV park by 9:30.
The kids flight was scheduled for 1:45 hrs PV time which is one hour ahead of us so they should have lots of time "if " the traffic is not a problem. The time to the airport from Rincon is normally 1 1/2 hours ( 65 KM ) but the taxi driver (who also works at the RV park ) told us later that there was no traffic so they were at the airport in 1 hour.
When the Kids arrived in Calgary , on schedule at 6 PM they had to take a taxi to Yvonne's brothers place in central Calgary where they left the Van. When they arrived at the Van it was around 7 PM, it was cold and the kids were tired and wanted to get home to open their gifts. You guessed it.... the battery was dead because a light was left on. Todd said they jumped back in the Taxi and said take us home which is at least another 1 hour drive. That probably made that " cabbies " day.
When the kids got home they found out that Santa left each of them a brand new bicycle so they were all happy. Tomorrow they would head to their cabin in the Fairmont area so they could go skiing for a week. Talk about going from Sun to Snow.
It was a hectic 8 days but it was enjoyable by all. Carroll and I can now return to our relaxed mode and just become Beach Bums again.
Now we had to get ready for Christmas dinner in the park which was scheduled for 5 PM. Our task was to provide mashed potatoes which was quite simple. The park covered the cost of the turkeys and the rest was Pot Luck. Several of the park residence went home ( or elsewhere ) for Christmas so there was 25 of us for dinner. The dinner was great and of course everyone over indulged and then complained as usual.
Well , that is Christmas for another year. cheers

Winter in MX ..Quayabitos ( DEc 24)
Well, the Kids have one more day before the fly back to reality so they chose to go to; what else, a beautiful surfing beach about 30 KM north of Rincon called Chacala. They were there a few days ago and just had to go back before they go home.
However, Emily was not a "ball of fire : so she stayed home with Grandma and Grandpa. Emily had her hair in braids yesterday , by a beach vendor so she wanted her nails done. Grandma took her to get her nails done today. She was real happy as the nail lady painted a flower design on each finger and toe.
When the kids arrived home , Emily had to show off her nails so now Megan wanted hers done so Yvonne took her to the nail lady and she too got the same treatment as Emily. Both girls are now happy.
Now the boys needed equal treatment so they wanted a Tattoo which they seen on the beach, however, the Tattoo man was gone for the day so they had hoped to get a Tattoo tomorrow.
We had planned to go out for supper as it was the last night to spend with the Kids. We had to make reservation as many of the restaurants were closed as it was , after all, Christmas Eve. The 3 youngest were not impressed with the menu but most 5 year olds from Canada would not get too excited with Fatias , rice and refried beans. Hamburg's, hotdogs and chicken strips were not on the menu tonight.
Todd ordered a Bus taxi for 9 / 9:15 AM to take them to the PV airport tomorrow. I had hoped they would pack tonight so they would be ready in the morning. I should have known better...Cheers

The 3 youngest were not impressed with the menu but most 5 year olds from Canada would not get too excited with Fatias , rice and refried beans. Hamburg's, hotdogs and chicken strips were not on the menu tonight.
Todd ordered a Bus taxi for 9 / 9:15 AM to take them to the PV airport tomorrow. I had hoped they would pack tonight so they would be ready in the morning. I should have known better...Cheers
Winter in MX ( Dec 23 )
Today we are all ( 8 of us ) going to Sayulita, 24 KM away and if you have forgotten , it is a Surfing Beach, with many many restaurants and more or less important; a host of small boutiques just waiting to fleece you by selling you stuff ( Jewry, tee shirts, surfing gear ) you don't need.
Please recall that our tow car is a Blazer which holds 4 adults semi-comfortable and we are a family of 8, not to mention Boggy Boards, umbrella, bag chairs, towels etc..... I think you get the picture.
Now we have to load the 8 people into the car. A shoehorn would be handy and you can forget the seat belt law. OK , 3 small kids in the rear with the baggage, 2 adults and Emily in the back seat and two adults in the front. I'm guessing that the Mexican could easily put another 4 people in a car this size but then again they no how to pack better than us.
Off we go and arrive at Sayulita and as expected there was no place to park. So we bailed out, right on a street corner, grab our baggage and walk a block to the beach leaving Todd to find a parking spot, which he did.
After finding a spot on the beach we started to catch the surf for the kids. We had to help the kids with a push start just as the wave would break which mean they were have fun while you were trying to find out which way your ass was point after the wave knock you off you feet.
After having fun for an hour we sat on the beach and ordered Tacos and beer from the roving waiters. There are several restaurants along the beach so they take your order and deliver. I no.. Life is Bitch in MX. I met 3 couples from Edmonton and one lady had an Oilers cap so I guessed Edm and I was right. I jokingly said, I suppose you are in MX to get away from the winter weather and nobody thought it was funny as the temperature in Edm was above zero. They worked the Oil Patch; surprise ; surprise.
We then went to Punta Mita, about 25 KM away as Todd and Yvonne wanted to check on a boat ride to an Island but it was too costly for want you get. On the way home on a 2 lane winding road we ( along with 20 other cars ) got behind an old gravel truck which was going flatout at 20 KMH and nobody could pass, So the one hour return trip took 1 1/2 hours.
When we arrived home it was definitely " Miller Time " followed by supper. cheers
