17Dec Saturday Winery

Our plans for today was to visit the Saturday market in Hermanus, some 7 KM away,as they have a Saturday market and we are the curious type to see what is there. And we thought we would visit another small coastal town and end the day by checking our a few winerys. So we headed for town and " holy moly" the traffic was lined up for 2 or 3 KM both way. Since we could not see an accident we guessed in must be volume and it was, so we crept along for about 20 minutes and finally reached town. Our next move was to find a parking spot and we are just too lucky as the parking lot Marshall, who I mentioned prevoiusly seen us coming and motioned that someone was leaving, so in we go.
Then we walked around the market and a lady had something ( I forgot the name but another name is probably a heart attack on a bun ) that was a deep fried bun filled with curried rice and hamburg mixed. I heard a guy ask for one so I inquired aboutit and she gave me a taster. Since they are the size of a big Mac, Carroll and I split one.
Then we headed for another small town about 20 KM away called Sanford and since they had a information station we dropped in to see what was cooking in theira town. To be perfectly honest not much was doing but they did have a craft sale and a " Boot Sale" . Now I know you are dying to know what a Boot sale is so I'll tell you. It is a garage sale but they sell the items out of the trunk of the car, which they call a " Boot ". Anyhow the lady at the info booth was very knowledgable so we inquired about a wine tour so she gave us a map of the wineries. We wanted one that served lunch so she recommended several but advised us to phone ahead so we called one and off we go. After 5 KM we turned off to another road and the sign said 16 KM and it was gravel. As it turns out is was a good gravel road and it was a scenic drive thru, dairy farms and wine country. Then we arrived at the winery, actually the owners house and OMG is was a mansion and we were the only customers. Willie the owner met us at the door, and the his wife Annetia met us and they ushered us into there wine tasting/dinning room with a gorgerous view of their grape fields. We tasted 3 wines and then Anntetia served us a wonderful lunch of cheeses, cold meats, bread and crackers. We talked for about 2 1/2 hours discusing everything from wines to politics to farming and of course I also need to here about the history of ZA. Before leaving, Willie and Annetia insisted that we visit another small town and stop for a coffee at the cafe called " Coffee on the Rocks as it is located overlooking the rocky shores of the Indian Ocean. It was another gorgerous view and the owner dropped over to our table and chatted for about 10 or 15 mins. The ZA people are friendly beyond words and are very helpful. It is the people who have made our trip so wonderful.
