We headed for Windsor today to tour the area and to pick up a few groceries as that is the nearest shopping area. Once in Windsor we spotted the Visitor Info office and stopped to ask about the area. The young lady was very informative and provided a hand drawn map ( not produced by her ) for us to follow. Before I got 2 KM down the road I realized that either I could not read a map or the producer of the map fail Geography. We returned to the Visitors Info to get the directions straight and we determined that the map was a waste of paper , however the names of the places to visit were the important part.
I also got the address from the Visitors Info of an RV dealer as I needed to get a Fuse for the MH. There are no RV dealers in Windsor but there was one in Kempville which we were going thru. Once in Kempville I could not find the address so I stopped at a Tire shop and he sent me to New Minas, a town attached to Kempville. The RV dealer could not help but sent me to and Industrial Park ( you guess it ) in Kempville. After visiting 5 ( five ) different shops I finally got the fuse at " Parts for Trucks ".
By this time we had managed to waste most of the day but a place called Hall's Harbor was on our list of places to see and it was about 20 KM away so we drove there and stayed for supper. It is a small fishing harbor with a nice restaurant that specialize in Lobster and a gift store to take your money. These Harbors are quaint and interesting to us westerns. The tide was out so the Fishing boat where sitting on the Mud and tied to the Wharf waiting on the tide to come in.
To order food you had to visit the gift and pay in advance. Carroll order Lobster so they said , go pick one out of the tank. Then they put it in a tub and said take it to the Cook who was in another area . Then the eating area was in another building across an alley. I ordered Fish and Chips.
When the waitress brought the Lobster, Carroll ask how do I get it apart and the waitress demo it for Carroll. One phase that made me smile was when the waitress said "grab the main body and give it a firm Hug and twist".
The waitress obviously knew we were not Easterners so she ask where we were from and we said AB. She said the they lived in Ft Mac and she did not like it because she missed her family. Then she went on to say that they returned to NS but there was no work so back to Sask; then to Ontario and then back to NS. I ask where do you live now. She said in town but her husband is back in Ft Mac.
"No More questions , Your Honour".
After our supper we headed home as it was an 1 1/2 drive . First we had to return to Windsor and then hopefully we would remember all the twist and turns required to get to our camp site. We had to take 3 different roads / hwy to get home. Several KM out of Windsor we missed a road so back to the Service Station to ask directions ( our GPS was in the MH ). The road I was looking for was just across from the Service Station but there was no sign to tell you to turn there. I guess the locals know where they are going so why bother with a sign.
We got home safe and sound. cheers

Pictou to Walton 1 sept 2016
We search for a campsite along the Bay of Fundy as we are eventually heading for Digby to visit a friend from our Shilo days. Because of the Labour day holiday it was not easy to find a place but we found one on the coastal road.
As we packing up to leave our Birchwood camp site the weather was starting to look like rain and we want to get the hooked up quickly. We did not make it. First I had to turn the MH around in an area about the size of a Postage stamp and find a level spot. Just as we lined up the car to mount the Dolly the Sky fell in and before we could run for cover in the car we got wet. After 20 minutes the rain subsided so we got to splash around in 1 inch of water while loaded the car.
Just as I was pulling out of the campsite the smoke detector went off. Since there was no smoke nor smell of smoke I removed the battery from the detecter... problem solved. I put the battery in later that day and it has not alarmed since so I'm not sure of the reason for the alarm.
We had to go thru Turo on our way to Walton which is on Minas Bay. I have not found out how the Bay got it's name yet but Mr. Minas must have settled here. After getting thru Turo we were again on a two lane coastal hwy 215 which was barely wide enough when meeting a truck or a MH. The road condition was acceptable until we hit the town of Maitland. The sign read " Rough Road for 16 KM " and they were not lying about the condition. This road would not due justice to a Plough field. However, they were replacing all the culverts with the intention to pave the road later this year which probably means next year.
About 3/4 of the way down the 16 KM I spotted some gas/diesel pumps at a Trailer sales and rental place and the diesel price was 95.9 and since I was near the 1/4 mark I pulled in. After looking at the condition of the pumps I was having second thought but I did know how far to the next fuel stop so I stayed. An older gentleman ( around my age ) came out to pump the fuel and he said "Fill'er Up" I said yes but stop at 300.00. He gulped and then repeated " 300.00 dollars. I said Yes. He had to hold the trigger as it did not have the latch to hold the nozzle open so we had lots of time to chat.
He ask me the Preverbal questions ; where you from , where are you going etc. I ask if he lived here all his life and he said he had lived in Belize for 20 years before moving back to NS. I ask what he did in Belize and he said farming. Then the "light " went on.... I said to myself that he must be a Mennonite as there lots of Mennonites who farm in the state of Orange Walk in Belize. He said they planted Beans in Dec and in June they planted Corn in the same field each and every year.
I ask why he left Belize and he said the Belizean people did not like "them " probably meaning Mennonites and he said the people where stealing "us " blind. So 20 years was enough.
After a few more KM we finally hit a good road and shortly there after found our campsite called Whale Creek ( Whale Cove and Whale Bay must have been taken. ha ha ) This campsite is mainly Seasonal ( 30 spots ) with about 10 weekend spots, mostly tent areas. However, we got a nice spot facing the ocean where you could, if you are stuck for something to do, watch the tide go In and Out. Yippee!!!! In hindsight we should have continued to Digby. The owner said that all the Seasonal occupants were within a 45 minute driver from home.
After a quick lunch we decided to explore the area and since Windsor was supposedly a 45 minutes drive , we thought it would be worth the trip and it would kill the afternoon. We got about 5 KM down the road and a sign said Turn Right for the Light house tour. We thought we would find the location and return later since it was close to the campsite. However the Tour Guide/ Gift shop operator was on us like Flies on a Manure pile and started to explain about the Light House before we got out of the car. So I felt compelled to tour the light house. There is no way in Hell that Carroll could climb to the top of the stairs. Incidentally, NS had 163 Light House and I'm not sure if that included Cape Breton. In the minds of most Cape Bretons', they believe it is a separate Province.
So off to Windsor we go and about 20 minutes down the road it started to pour buckets and the wipers could not clear the windshield . As a result, we abandoned the idea of going to Windsor since it appeared that we were driving into the rain not out of it. We then decided to enjoy the scenery on the way home as there are lots of Bays to stop at and view the scenery.
I ask the campsite owner about WiFi and she said it was OK to go to site 17 and sit on their deck as the signal was the strongest there and the people where away. I was on the deck for 10 minutes before 3 people came to see what I was doing on this persons deck. Once I explain that the Camp Owner told me to use the deck everything was OK.
Several of the Campers walk to the beach around 6 PM to watch the Sun go down. I ask if the Sun goes down every night and one guy said " So Far So Good ". After Miller Time and supper we called it a day. Cheers

Moncton to Picton via New Glasgow Tuesday 30 Aug 2016
We drove from Moncton to New Glasgow to pick up the MH along the " Coastal " road. We thought coastal meant along the water but it apparently it means the closes road to the coast. We drove 1 hour before we seen water but that still beats the 4 lane hwy.
I got bored and tired around 11:00 AM and Carroll didn't want to drive so I pulled into a small community centre parking lot for a 10 min snooze. I woke up 30 minutes later!!!!
We arrived in New Glasgow at the Kenworth Truck garage to pickup the MH. It had been sitting there since the Monday before so the mechanics plugged in the power after they replaced the Alternator, which was nice of them.
The clerk and two mechanics greeted us and we said we would load the kids bikes into the Van as they were chained to the Car Dolly. After loading the bikes and unpacking our suite case we were ready to load the car on the Dolly. This is something I have never done in my life. However, Todd gave me a verbal overview how it was to be done, most of which I did not understand.
So I jumped in the drivers seat , turned on the key ... nothing ; zero ; Zippo; not even a grunting noise. After sitting for a week, plugged in; it should have started so I ask the Boss mechanic to check the Batteries and they tested as " Junk ", so they replaced the two batteries for the tune of 300.00
So now we had to load the car on the Dolly and Todd reminded me to load on a level area so I circled the garage parking lot to find the ideal spot. Carroll and I managed to load the car without much consternation. Then I did a practice lap around the yard to see how the Dolly would follow. Carroll was watching from a distance and did a "thumbs up".
While the mechanic was replacing the batteries Carroll canvased the staff for a camp site in the area, somewhere near Pictou. One of the staff recommended a Camp site about 10 minutes out of Pictou. The directions were : take the hwy to Pictou, when you get to the " Rotary" go around it until you see the sign that says Hwy 637 and take that road for about 10 KM and you will see the Birchwood Camp site on your right . The Western word for Rotary is either a Roundabout or a Traffic Circle. This Rotary had 5 legs ( exits ) each with a billboard with enough directions and information to circumnavigate the world. We could not absorb all the info on our "Drive By " so naturally we took the wrong road and had to drive 25 KM before we could turn around and we did so in another campground. ( There goes another out of my life I will never get back )
We got to the camp site about 6:30 with no reservation but they had a few sites left. We were intending to stay for 1 day but a day like this made us decided to stay 2 nights and visit Pictou tomorrow.
After a day like this we did not feel like cooking supper so we went to a Lobster Bar in Pictou for supper. cheers

Toured Pictou Wed 31 Aug 2016
After breakfast we spent the morning organizing the MH to our liking. Carroll did the inside and I did the outside or I should the cargo area. I also did some maintenance such adding oil, checking the coolant level and greasing the U joints which is a dirty job but must be done. We also did several text msg to Yvonne and Todd asking for the location of several different items. It was easier ask them rather then to fumbled thru everything, wasting time and tearing things apart.
In the afternoon we toured Pictou which was about 15 minutes away. It has a quaint main street with several interesting boutiques. It also has a waterfront/ harbor where the tourist ( like us ) can meander along. The harbor was sure not very active so I guess the fishing or Lobster season is over.
After window shopping for an hour we drove to the wharf to check out the activity, which there was very little. While watching the waves go in and out I fell asleep for 20 minutes. I didn't realize that watching the waves was that tiring.
We also spent some time at Tim's , making use of their free WiFi as we where looking for a camp site for Thursday and Friday. We found a place at Walton which is called the Bay of Fundy area. Camp sites we scarce for the Holiday weekend. Hopefully it will be suitable when we get there. cheers

On our Way to Moncton 29 Aug 2016
Our flight from Calgary to Moncton had a launch time of 6 AM. That means we had to be up by 3:30 AM and out of Todd's house by 4 AM. It also mean that Todd had to drive from his place to the Calgary Airport which was a casual 45 minute drive at that early hour.
Yvonne had already check us in last evening but , as I explained, since I am a veteran and as such I have to check our baggage thru a clerk since we do not pay for any checked baggage. When we got to the Kiosk we where met by a lady who was there to help the helpless like us. She ushered us into a line of about 50 travelers and at that point Carroll mentioned that I was a Veteran and she said just wait here. About a minute later she said follow me and were checked right thru. The clerk even thank me for my Service to the country. So there some perks for my 30 years of Service.
We had to change planes in Toronto and it was a 3 hour wait. Since we lots of time we had lunch and then ambled for what seem to be forever, to the very end of Terminal 1 to catch, what was probably the oldest plane in the Air Canada fleet. You know Air Canada's motto " We are not Happy until You are not Happy".
We landed in Moncton a little after 6 PM and the next thing was to find Yvonne's that she left for us. We went outside the Terminal to find the Parking Area but it did not seem that it was accessible for the Terminal. I spotted two cabbie that were swapping lies and they advised me that there was an underground tunnel to the parking area but only accessible from inside the terminal.
After finding the car we headed for Moncton some 15 KM away to find our hotel that we had booked a week earlier. The hotel was called Chateau Moncton and since the room price 125.00 I wasn't sure what we were getting. When we arrived I was total surprised to find such an upscale hotel for that price. Especially, after traveling around BC in July where we paid 185.00 for a "Basic " room in the Super 8 in Osoyoos. This hotel also provides a full breakfast which we will check our tomorrow.
After checking in I decided that I should have a case of beer for my travels so I ask the female clerk for directions. She directed me to the area in Moncton where she thought there was a beer store but in hindsight I doubt that was ever in the store. Anyhow , it was huge beer/ liquor store and I found what I needed.
Carroll ask the clerk for a restaurant that severed Lobster and she directed us to the " Catch 22 " restaurant. We search the menu as there were a myriad of choices and finally we ask the waitress to convince us as to the best dish. We had thought about and took the Shared plate for two which was 1/2 a lobster each plus 6 shrimp, 4 scallops, a piece of crab and a fillet of fish. All this for a cost of 70.00. It was well worth the price.
After this great meal we called it a day . Cheers

The Preamble of our Trip to the Mairtimes
Why are we going to the Maritimes since it was not in our plans for this year: as if we ever had a Plan.
Well, our son Todd and wife Yvonne decided last year that they would take there 4 Kids Emily 13, Rhett 9 and the twins Megan and Quinn 7, on a cross Canada trip this year from Okotoks , AB to Nfld using our 40 ft diesel pusher MH which we had sanctioned and supported.
They had a great trip but realized that 7 weeks would not allow they to reach NFLD so they abandoned that idea. After reaching NB with a little over 2 weeks left, before school would start and still with PEI and NS left to visit, they sent a msg to Carroll and I, asking if we would like to fly down to the Maritimes, tour the Maritimes and bring the MH home.
We immediately jumped at the idea so it was just a matter of where to leaving the MH. As it turned out the MH decided for them. As they crossed into NS from PEI and with 1 week left of there vacation, the alternator , to coin a phase ( shit itself ). As it turns out the only supplier for a new alternator was in the US and it would take a week to have it shipped to New Glasgow , NS where it broke down.
So Todd and family took off in their tow vehicle ( a KIA SUV ) and toured NS until they flew home on Friday.
We will fly to Moncton and drive the tow vehicle pick up the MH on 30 August
27 th August
Carroll and I left home and went to Todd's house to greet the Family but mainly the G/Kids to ask them about their trip and to see how excited it was for them. They all seemed to like something different which was great. They should have a wealth of knowledge when their teacher ask they to write an essay about their summer vacation.
Todd and Yvonne gave us the highlights of the trip and gave us a list of "must see " while we travel throughout the Maritimes.
28 th August Sunday
It is important to note that Carroll and I are flying out of Calgary to Moncton at 6 AM Monday.
Todd and Yvonne took their KIA, SUV as a tow vehicle as it would be useless to travel without a Tow Car. Of course, since they flew home the car was in left Moncton for us. However, sometime during breakfast ( Todd or Yvonne ) I'm not sure who , just remembered that their registration expired on 30 August. You don't need to be reminded that the License Plate store doesn't open until 9 AM on Monday and by that time we will be half way to Toronto .
Yes, a minor crisis has arisen but it can not be solved until Monday so we did some "Brain Storming" on the solution but nothing was solved on Sunday.
One would think that this Crisis was enough of a problem for one day. Not so!!
Around 3 PM Carroll was preparing carrots for supper when she felt dizzy and would have fallen if Yvonne had not caught her. After about 20 minutes she was not getting any better so I rush her to the Emergency Care Clinic in Okotoks.
All the way to Okotoks we were thinking; " There goes our trip to the Maritimes" . We were second in line at the Emergency Care, and they determined that Carroll needed treatment ASP so she got a bed right away; which mean she jumped the cue as there was 4 people in the waiting room. She was first interviewed/ checked out by a nurse.
Then she was interviewed by the doctor and mentioned that she could not hear out her left ear and she thought it was Plugged. The doctor checked the ear and seen that it was plugged and agreed that this could be reason for the dizziness. But she wanted an ECG also because of the dizziness could indicate a Stroke. The ECG was normal and after cleaning out the ear, Carroll felt good with no feeling of dizziness so she was released by 6 PM. Thankfully, there is no lingering problems. another Crisis averted.
Tomorrow is a new day and we will try to solve the vehicle registration issue. cheers

Tomorrow is a new day and we will try to solve the vehicle registration issue. cheers
